Snake Temple Architecture

I have been photographing the Snake Temple for the past few years. In this photo gallery, I would like to share with you a selection of the shots I have taken over the years. Through these photographs, you will get to see the Snake Temple before and after its most recent restoration, which took place in 2008-2009.
This page is now available also in Tamil, by Santhipriya (nrj1945@gmail.com). You can now view the Snake Temple Architecture (Tamil)
3 January 2005
These are the earliest digital photos of the Snake Temple in my collection. Not very satisfied with the direction of the sun on that day.

As you can see, many of my shots are taken in the month of January. This is usually around Chinese New Year. The feast day of the temple deity falls on the 6th day of Chinese New Year. On this visit, I took some shots of the small figurines along the side of the Prayer Pavilion. Note the walls of the Prayer Hall and Prayer Pavilion before restoration.

10 June 2006
This is the second time I shot the Snake Temple in 2006. There was such a lovely weather on that day, that I couldn't resist taking advantage of the clear blue sky. I am pleased to capture some of the sections of the temple before restoration, to compare it with how it looks like now.

28 January 2009
These shots were taken immediately after the restoration was completed, and the temple reopened in time for Chinese New Year.

As I write, these are the latest shots of Snake Temple, taken during the Penang Heritage Trust Site Visit.
