Cecil Street Market Hawker Centre (1 September 2013)
Cecil Street Market Hawker Centre (GPS: 5.40739, 100.32877) is the biggest hawker centre within the inner city of George Town. It is built as part of the Cecil Street Market. Despite its name, the hawker centre faces for the most part McNair Street, within the Seven Streets Precinct.
There is a huge variety of food available at the Cecil Street Market Hawker Centre. When it comes to what hawker food is available here, I can say it has the whole works, with some of the most common food being sold by more than one stall.
I was recommended by a friend to try to Lum Lai Duck Meat Koay Teow Thng and pasembur. So that was what we had when my wife and I visited this place on 1 September 2013. The koay teow thng is okay. It is meatier (or as we say in Penang, quite ho1 liau3) compared to the Pitt Street Koay Teow Thng. I later learned on the Internet that many bloggers have also written about this koay teow thng stall, praising it sky high. I refrain from calling it the best in Penang, but it certainly isn't bad. It is also not too pricey, at only RM3.70 per bowl.
We don't find anything special about the pasembur. Again, it's not bad, but not exceptional either. It is also reasonably priced at RM3.30.
The Cecil Street Market Hawker Centre is busiest in the morning, when the wet market is in session. It is also quite crowded during lunch time. After lunch, activities slow down somewhat, though many stalls continue to operate until the evening.
