Pantai Esen, Permatang Damar Laut, Penang (4 February 2022)
Pantai Esen (GPS: 5.26765, 100.27067) is a stretch of sandy beach in Permatang Damar Laut, Penang. It is reached by a 15-minute trek from the end of Lintang Permatang Damar Laut.
I have known of this place since childhood (I grew up in Permatang Damar Laut, to be exact, our house was between Batu Maung and Permatang Damar Laut village), but it was only in recent years that this beach acquired the name Pantai Esen. I do not know who decided to give it such a name, but somehow it has stuck.
The sea at Pantai Esen is not suitable for swimming. It has a muddy bottom and you can see the mudflats during low tide. Most people go there for picnicking and sightseeing.
