As with many of the Hindu shrines in the Gelugor area, Sri Muneeshwarar was established by the Indians who were the predominant ethnic group in the area until the mid 20th century, when the Gelugor area underwent rapid development. Since then, the small shrine has become hemmed in by the increasingly heavy traffic all around it.
