Tean Ean Local Products (5.42851, 100.32088) is a shop selling Penang-based confectioneries. It occupies a colonial-era bungalow at the junction between Gurney Drive and Northam Road.
Tean Ean Local Products was established in 1995 by Mr Teh Tatt Huat as a centre for local products. Since then, the shop's product offering has grown to include over three hundred different types of local products. As its name suggests, you can buy all sorts of local products at Tean Ean. Tean Ean is well known for its Bak Kut Teh preparations, which follows a recipe handed down Mr Teh's family from his grandfather, who arrived in Penang at the turn of the 20th century.
In addition to Bak Kut Teh, Tean Ean Local Products is also known for its Tau Sah Pneah, which is made at the store. Visitors can to view how the confectionery is made right before their eyes, and they get to witness that the Tean Ean tau sah pneah is made without the use of any preservatives. Not only that, they often get to try out making the confectionaries themselves. In addition to bak kut teh preparations and tau sah pneah, Tean Ean Local Products also offer its own inhouse brand of nutmeg, rheumatism oil, nutmeg oil and nutmeg syrup.
