A kampung house along Jalan Baru, Balik Pulau (22 July 2006)
Kuala Jalan Bahru Hokkien Mee was a popular stall selling Hokkien Mee in Balik Pulau. Known in Hokkien as the Sin Lor Thau Hokkien Mee, it used to operateread update as a cottage industry out of a private house along Jalan Kuala Jalan Baru, on the west coast of Balik Pulau. The shop sells Hokkien Mee as well as Laksa.
The Kuala Jalan Bahru Hokkien Mee has a reputation that outweighs its humble surroundings. Often visitors from outside Penang make a food pilgrimage to Balik Pulau simply to enjoy it. This is what I observed judging from the many cars parked at the compound, many bearing out-of-state number plates.
And how's the Hokkien Mee? Personally, having tried it, I can't help but wonder what the fuss was about. Due to the number of customers, I had to wait a while before receiving my order.

If is possible to reach the Kuala Jalan Bahru Hokkien Mee Coffee Shop by bus. From the Balik Pulau Bus Terminal, take bus 403 and ask the driver to drop you at Kuala Jalan Bahru.
