Escape is a steel-rod sculpture installed under a window facing
Acheen Street in
George Town, Penang. The window belongs to a historic building known as
Gudang Acheh which was originally built as a jail. During that time, the area was a Malay village where the villagers were mostly of Achehnese descent.
Gudang Acheh has since underwent various usage, but for much of its existence, it was used as a warehouse. The "Escape" Sculpture, based on a caricature by
Tang Mun Kian, depicts a rope being tied to the window by an escapee.
