44 & 42 King Street, George Town, Penang (15 September 2012)

44 & 42 King Street (GPS: 5.41817, 100.33985) are two double-storey shophouses in George Town, Penang. They are located within the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beside 44 King Street is an alley while 42 King Street is next to Ng Kongsi.

44 & 42 King Street were built at the turn of the 20th century in the Straits Eclectic Style. This is distinctive in the three full-length windows that front their façade. The windows are topped with transoms of wooden grids. Molded pilasters alternative with the windows, which comprise wooden shutters on the top and panels on the bottom. The pilasters support the arches framing the transoms, ending in keystones.

On the side of 44 King Street is an elevated side protrusion, or serambi, overhanging the alley below.
