"Bullock Cart Wheel" Sculpture, Pitt Street

Bullock Cart Wheel (GPS: 5.41962, 100.33971) is a steel-rod sculpture erected on the wall facing Pitt Street, in George Town, Penang. It is based on a caricature by Reggie Lee for the Marking George Town project.

The Bullock Cart Wheel sculpture provides two different historical insights. The first is with regards the stretch of Pitt Street, which was where bullock carts used to be parked as late as the early 20th century. The second, as depicted with the ½-cent Straits Settlement coin, in an idiom in Penang Hokkien. Bullock Cart Wheel, or Gu3 Chia3 Lean4 is a description of a stingy person, whose ½-cent is the size of wheel of a bullock cart.
