Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar (22 December 2008)
Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar (GPS: 5.33976, 100.29907) is an old mosque at Kampung Sungai Nibong Besar, Sungai Nibong. The mosque has existed for decades, at least since the earlier part of the 20th century, when Sungai Nibong was a Malay settlement surrounded by vegetable farms.
In the earlier days, Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar used to be located at the junction of Jalan Sungai Dua. However, when Jalan Sungai Dua was realigned in the 1970's, the road beside the mosque became a dead end. Over the years, the surrounding area has given away to development, so much so that Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar is today hemmed in by housing estates. In front of it is the Bayan Lepas Main Road, now renamed Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, with the Bayan Lepas Elevated Highway directly overhead.
