Penang Cheshire Home (GPS: 5.41843, 100.31336) is an organisation established to assist the physically disabled. Located along Babington Avenue, it was established in 1978, and is one of hundreds of Cheshire Homes set up since 1948.
The Penang Cheshire Home, as is all the Cheshire Homes around the world, is named after Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire (1917-1992), one of the most decorated British Royal Air Force pilots of the Second World War. However the war, and particularly perhaps the atomic bomb dropped at Nagasaki - at which he was the official British observer - spurred him in a different direction, to eventually found the Leonard Cheshire Disability, an organisation that provides support to disabled people throughout the world. It remains one of the thirty top British charities.
