Barrack Road, Penang (25 November 2010)

Barrack Road, or Jalan Berek, is a minor road in George Town, Penang. It continues from Gaol Road, at the junction with Tull Road, all the way to the junction with Perak Road and Macalister Road.

Barrack Road was named after the British military barracks that used to be located there during the 19th century. During that time, the entire piece of land from Macalister Road to Dato Kramat Road was part of the military precinct. It includes the present Penang Prison, polo ground and land now occupied by the Penang General Hospital.
