61 China Street, George Town (15 September 2012)


61 China Street (GPS: 5.41769, 100.33973) is a pre-war shophouse at the junction of China Street and King Street, in George Town, Penang. It is within the core zone of the World Heritage Site as well as part of the city's Little India.

61 China Street is of an ensemble of five double-storey shophouses along China Street, numbered 53, 55, 57, 59 and 61. It was designed by architect Lim Soo Loon and completed in the early 1920s. The building has its five-foot way arcade wrapping around from China Street to King Street. The building today houses Kathigesu Enterprise, an Indian sundry shop.
