George Town World Heritage Incorporated provides its expertise of owners of properties, particularly heritage properties within the World Heritage Site, as well as to architects and builders. It regularly conducts skills development workshops, and serves as a resource centre and online archive for issues related to the city. The centre also organises talks and other activities that engage the involvement of children and students, from primary schools right up to institutions of higher learning.
The building that presently houses the office of George Town World Heritage Incorporated was previously the Penang Heritage Centre, until it changed its name to the present on 21 April, 2010. The heritage centre was initially housed in the Syed Alatas Mansion, which later housed the Penang Islamic Museum. In August 2002, it was moved next door, to the corner lot between Carnavon Street and Armenian Street. This corner building once housed the clinic of Dr Ong Huck Chye, who was also a Municipal Commissioner during the 1930's.
The George Town World Heritage Incorporated building was previously known as the Penang Heritage Centre until 21 April 2010. (1 September, 2008)
