Georgetown Secondary School, PenangGeorgetown Secondary School, Penang (31 May 2012)

Georgetown Secondary School (GPS: 5.39959, 100.29878), or Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Georgetown, is a secondary school along Batu Lanchang Lane, Penang. It was established in the mid 20th century, as the urban sprawl of George Town expands beyond its traditional borders, and former plantation land made way for development.

At the time it was constructed, Georgetown Secondary School was in the outskirts, as the housing estates of Island Park and Island Glades have not yet been developed, and Batu Lanchang Lane itself was really a lane into the cemeteries. Since then, the rapid growth of George Town has transformed the surrounding areas.

At the time the school was built, it was fashionable to write George Town as "Georgetown", hence the name of the school. Since then, the original form has become popular again, most notedly after the inscription of the inner city as a World Heritage Site. Today Georgetown Secondary School serves as one of the district schools for the surrounding neighbourhood.

Georgetown Secondary School is on the Map of Lorong Batu Lanchang
