Machang Bubok (GPS: 5.33941, 100.51043) is a town on the eastern side of Bukit Mertajam in Seberang Perai Tengah. It is near the border with Kulim, Kedah. Machang Bubok developed out of the village of Kampung Machang Bubok. Most of the people here are Chinese of Hakka ethnic group who were settled there in the early 1950s, when the British resettled the rural Chinese community to contain the communist threat.
You can reach Machang Bubok by taking Jalan Kulim, the main road heading out of Bukit Mertajam towards Kulim. The town has spread to both sides of Jalan Kulim, though the main part of Machang Bubok is on the right (south) side of Jalan Kulim, where a signage for "Perkampungan Machang Bubok" was erected in 2007.
