Mount Erskine Hokkien Cemetery (GPS: 5.43882, 100.29984) is one of the major Chinese cemeteries in Penang. It covers a big area of the hillock in Mount Erskine. In recent decades, the peripheries of the cemetery have given way to residential housing, particularly the parts closest to the Tanjong Tokong Road.
The Mount Erskine Hokkien Cemetery traces its beginnings to the turn of the 20th century, when the Hokkien clan associations began buying land in the area for burial purposes. The site was regarded as auspicious as it afforded an uninterrupted view of George Town and the sea.
Today the Mount Erskine Hokkien Cemetery is managed by United Hokkien Cemeteries, the body that oversees the running of the Hokkien Chinese cemeteries in Penang.
