Mutiara Rini (GPS: 5.38594, 100.31678) is an affordable medium cost apartment complex under construction in Jelutong, Penang. It is one of the projects by JKP Sdn Bhd, a developer under the Ministry of Finance that was set up specially to assist the Bumiputera community own properties in Penang State.
Mutiara Rini comprises a 24-storey apartment block with a total of 382 apartment units.1 It was launched on 10 October, 2015.2.
On 14 October, 2017, it was reported 2 that the Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that Mutiara Rini should be demolished, as it uses the same material as another project, Mutiara Ria. Both project, located adjacent to each other, were found to be using construction material that were not according to specifications. Mr Lim said that the state government was not satisfied with the safety standard of Mutiara Ria, and he felt that Mutiara Rini should also be demolished as the same materials were used for it.1
