The following is a list of the streets with information on their history and location. The streets of George Town are some of the oldest streets on the Malay Peninsula. Streets such as Light Street and Beach Street have been around longer than some of the major cities along the peninsula including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Taiping. There is a wealth of history about these streets that have so far gone unappreciated, which I hope, through this website, I can help to let people know them better. Only in Malacca do you find named streets such as Heeren Street and Jonker Street that are even older than those in Penang.
I am still working on describing the streets in Penang as well as elsewhere in Malaysia (and Singapore). I am having a lot of fun doing it, and I hope you too will enjoy reading about them here.
Read also Streets of George Town to learn a bit of background about the streets on this city. On a separate page, I am also working to list the Roads of Penang Island. I am having fun describing them, and I hope you too will enjoy reading about them and get better acquainted with them.
