Pulau Tikus Loop Free Shuttle Bus (1 January 2017)
Pulau Tikus Free Shuttle Bus, today replaced by CAT 5, is a free bus service in the Pulau Tikus District of George Town, Penang. The service was offered at the suggestion of local assemblyman Ms Yap Soo Huey to reduce congestion in the area, particularly during rush hours.
The Pulau Tikus Free Shuttle Bus service runs on an anti-clockwise loop route at intervals of between 15 and 20 minutes. Services operate from 8:00 am in the morning to 11:00 pm at night. A trial run of the shuttle service began on 1 December, 2013, as part of the Pulau Tikus Green Transport Users programme. The service was extended to include the Mount Erskine neighbourhood in February 2016.
Participants of the Green Transport Users programme receive a free Rapid Penang bus pass. This entitles them to unlimited free bus rides for a period of one month. To receive ths free bus pass, participant has to bring along two passport-size photographs and to show proof that the person lives or works in Pulau Tikus. This can be done by either furnishing a home address on the IC or an employment letter with a Pulau Tikus office address.
