Warren Street Station, London

Warren Street Station (GPS: 51.52461, -0.13817) is a London Underground station located at the junction of Tottenham Court Road and Euston Road in Fitzrovia, within the London Borough of Camden. It serves the Northern and Victoria lines and is situated in Travelcard Zone 1. The station is a major commuter hub for nearby University College London (UCL), University College Hospital, and various offices along Euston Road in central London.

History of Warren Street Station

The station originally opened on 22 June 1907 as part of the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway, which later became the Northern line. Initially named Euston Road, it was quickly renamed to Warren Street on 7 June 1908, just a year after opening, to better reflect the name of the street nearby and avoid confusion with nearby Euston Station1.

The Victoria line platforms were added later and opened on 1 December 1968 as part of the first phase of the line's rollout, significantly increasing the station's traffic and interchange utility1.

Station Buildings and Design

The original station building, designed by architect Leslie Green, featured his signature ox-blood red glazed terracotta façades, which have since been replaced with a more modern utilitarian structure to accommodate upgrades and better accessibility. Today, the station entrance is housed in a modern glass-fronted building facing Tottenham Court Road, with step-free access via lifts and escalators to the ticket hall and platforms below.

Distance from Charing Cross

By road, Warren Street Station is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometres) from Charing Cross, one of London's traditional central points. The journey by taxi typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic.
