Bus 11 functions as a city connector, linking Penang’s main transport gateways with densely populated neighbourhoods further inland. Starting and ending at the Weld Quay Ferry & Bus Terminal, the route loops through George Town’s heritage streets, the Komtar transport hub, and southern residential corridors before returning to the Jetty.
This loop design means passengers can board the bus at any point along the route and travel either a short distance or almost the entire circuit, depending on their destination. For residents of Jelutong and Batu Lanchang, Bus 11 provides a direct public transport link to George Town without the need for transfers1.
The route of Rapid Penang Bus 11 begins at the Weld Quay Ferry & Bus Terminal, commonly referred to as the Jetty. This terminal is a key interchange for ferries, local buses, and services to Butterworth on the mainland.
From the Jetty, the bus travels via Gat Lebuh Chulia and Lebuh Chulia, passing through the heart of George Town’s heritage zone. This section serves popular areas with shops, budget hotels, cafés, and cultural landmarks.
The route then continues along Jalan Penang (Penang Road), one of the city’s main commercial streets, before heading onto Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong and Jalan Ria toward the Komtar area.
At the Komtar Bus Terminal, passengers can connect to numerous other Rapid Penang routes serving the rest of the island. After Komtar, Bus 11 proceeds along Jalan Magazine and Jalan Dato Keramat, transitioning from the city centre into established residential neighbourhoods.
The bus continues along Jalan Perak and Solok Perak before entering Jalan Jelutong, also known as Jelutong Main Road. This stretch is particularly important for daily commuters, as it serves schools, shops, wet markets, and apartments.
From Jelutong, Bus 11 uses Lebuhraya Gelugor and Lebuhraya Batu Lanchang to reach the Batu Lanchang area. It then travels along Lintang Batu Lanchang, Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim, and Jalan Masjid Negeri, serving residential zones near the State Mosque and nearby institutions.
After completing this southern segment, the bus retraces key roads and gradually makes its way back north toward George Town.
On the return leg, Bus 11 passes again through Jalan Jelutong, Jalan Perak, and Jalan Dato Keramat, before re-entering the city centre via Jalan Penang. It also travels along Jalan Burma, Jalan Transfer, and Jalan Sri Bahari, covering additional residential pockets before looping back to Lebuh Chulia and finally the Weld Quay Ferry & Bus Terminal.
