Until the 3rd quarter of the 20th century, Yeap Chor Ee Road was a dead end country lane just outside the southern boundary of George Town. It was the road that led to the plantations at Bukit Gelugor and Bukit Gambir.
The construction of Jalan Bukit Gambir in the 1980s changed all that. It turned Yeap Chor Ee Road into a major road to connect George Town with the newly established neighbourhoods such as Sungai Dua, Lip Sin Gardens and Bukit Jambul. The residential houses of Island Glades now see heavy vehicle movement and traffic crawls, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. On the south side of Yeap Chor Ee Road are the older houses of Bukit Gelugor. These properties, regarded as rural when they were built many decades ago, are now on expensive suburban land.
26 September, 2014 The Star reports that roadworks at Yeap Chor Ee Road, part of a RM7.5 million project, has been delayed a third time, and will only be completed in early 2015. The work includes construction of an elevated U-turn linking Yeap Chor Ee Road to Green Lane.
