Tingkat Siakap 9 is a residential road within the Siakap neighbourhood of Seberang Jaya, Seberang Perai, Penang. It runs in an east–west orientation, connecting Lorong Siakap 12 in the west to Persiaran Siakap in the east. Along its northern side, close to the Persiaran Siakap junction, stands the Pusat Kegiatan Guru Seberang Jaya, a teachers’ resource and activity centre serving the local education community.
Tingkat Siakap 9 is lined primarily with two-storey terrace houses, arranged in neat rows typical of the Siakap precinct. The road provides a direct link between the smaller residential lanes around Lorong Siakap 12 and the busier Persiaran Siakap, making it an important local connector. Its position near educational facilities further adds to its significance for the community. Medan Siakap branches north from it to connect with Lengkok Siakap 5.
One of the key landmarks along Tingkat Siakap 9 is the Pusat Kegiatan Guru Seberang Jaya (Teachers’ Activity Centre). These centres, established under Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, serve as resource hubs where teachers can undergo professional development, attend workshops, and access teaching materials1. Its presence on Tingkat Siakap 9 underscores the role of this neighbourhood not just as a residential area, but also as a contributor to the local education ecosystem.
The development of Tingkat Siakap 9 coincides with the planned township growth of Seberang Jaya in the late 1970s and 1980s2. Like other “Tingkat” roads in the precinct, it was designed as a link road to distribute traffic between smaller lorongs and larger connecting roads such as Persiaran Siakap.
Most homes on Tingkat Siakap 9 are two-storey terrace houses, generally offering built-up sizes of 1,400–1,800 sq ft (130–167 sq m)3. Current market values (2025) range between RM480,000 and RM630,000, while rentals typically fall between RM1,400 and RM2,000 per month4. Proximity to the Pusat Kegiatan Guru makes the area especially attractive for educators and families seeking convenient access to local schools.
From Tingkat Siakap 9, residents enjoy access to daily amenities such as surau, schools, and mini-markets located in the Siakap neighbourhood. The nearby Persiaran Siakap provides onward connections to Jalan Siakap and Jalan Baru, enabling quick travel to Sunway Carnival Mall, Seberang Jaya Hospital, and other key destinations.
Residents can reach Jalan Baru easily via Persiaran Siakap, providing connections to Butterworth, the Penang Bridge, and the North–South Expressway. Rapid Penang bus services are available along Jalan Baru5, making public transport accessible for commuters.
The “Pusat Kegiatan Guru” concept was introduced to strengthen Malaysia’s education system by creating decentralised centres where teachers could collaborate and share resources, bringing professional development opportunities closer to their schools.
