Medan Siakap is a road within the Siakap neighbourhood of Seberang Jaya, Seberang Perai, Penang. It runs in a north–south direction, linking Tingkat Siakap 9 in the south to Lengkok Siakap 5 in the north. The road serves both residential and educational functions, with single-storey terrace houses along its west side and the grounds of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Jaya (SK Seberang Jaya) occupying its east side.
Medan Siakap is a relatively short street, but its role is significant within the Siakap precinct. On its western side are rows of single-storey terrace houses, a contrast to the two-storey homes that dominate many nearby roads. The eastern side of Medan Siakap is fully taken up by the compound of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Jaya, one of the area’s primary schools.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Jaya (SK Seberang Jaya) is a national primary school that caters to the educational needs of children in this neighbourhood and beyond. As a government-funded institution, it follows the Malaysian national curriculum and serves as one of the key public schools in the Seberang Jaya township1. The school’s presence on Medan Siakap provides local families with convenient access to primary education, making the surrounding streets especially attractive to young households.
Medan Siakap was planned as part of the Seberang Jaya township expansion in the late 1970s and 1980s2. The combination of residential housing on one side and an educational institution on the other reflects the township’s integrated design, ensuring amenities are close to homes. Over the decades, the school has grown into a central feature of the community.
The terrace houses along Medan Siakap are single-storey units, with built-up sizes generally around 900–1,200 sq ft (84–111 sq m)3. Property values (2025) average between RM320,000 and RM420,000, while rental rates typically fall between RM950 and RM1,300 per month4. These houses are popular with small families and retirees who prefer single-level living.
Medan Siakap is strategically located between Tingkat Siakap 9 and Lengkok Siakap 5, both of which link onwards to Persiaran Siakap and Jalan Siakap. From there, residents enjoy convenient access to schools, surau, local shops, as well as major destinations such as Sunway Carnival Mall and Seberang Jaya Hospital.
The road enjoys good connectivity to Jalan Baru and the North–South Expressway. Public bus services by Rapid Penang are accessible from Jalan Baru5, giving residents a reliable commuting option.
The name “Medan” in Malay means “square” or “court”, though in this context it functions as the name of a street. Its dual role—residential on one side, educational on the other—makes Medan Siakap one of the more distinctive roads in the Siakap neighbourhood.
