Peng Siang is a densely populated residential subzone within the Singapore urban framework, forming part of the Choa Chu Kang Planning Area. With a land area of just 0.8627 square kilometres, it is home to nearly 34,000 residents, reflecting one of the highest concentrations of housing estates in the region.
Peng Siang is strategically located in the southwestern part of Choa Chu Kang. It is bordered by Choa Chu Kang Central to the northeast, Keat Hong to the southeast, Brickland to the southwest, and Peng Siang to the west. Despite its small land size, its compact layout supports a large population through high-rise Housing and Development Board (HDB) estates.
As of 2024, Peng Siang has an estimated population of 33,860, with a striking density of 39,248 persons per square kilometre. This makes it one of the most compact and vibrant subzones in Choa Chu Kang. Between 2020 and 2024, the population declined slightly by 0.63%, reflecting a combination of demographic shifts and limited space for new housing expansion.
A subzone is an official administrative division within a planning area, created by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to support urban management, statistical reporting, and land-use planning. This system was formally introduced in the early 1990s1 and remains an important part of Singapore’s urban governance.
Currently, Singapore is divided into 323 subzones across 55 planning areas2. While subzones such as Peng Siang help urban planners with detailed demographic and developmental insights, residents typically refer to their home area by the broader planning area or town name, such as “Choa Chu Kang.”
Peng Siang is predominantly residential, characterised by HDB housing blocks, neighbourhood shops, and educational institutions. The subzone is integrated into the wider Choa Chu Kang town centre, ensuring residents have easy access to public transport, retail, and community facilities.
Peng Siang is well connected by road networks and bus services that integrate it into the larger Choa Chu Kang town. Its proximity to Choa Chu Kang MRT Station (NS4/JS1) and Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange makes commuting to other parts of Singapore convenient and efficient. Internal pedestrian pathways also connect residents seamlessly to neighbourhood facilities.
