National Skin Centre (NSC) (GPS: 1.32013, 103.84944) is Singapore’s national dermatology specialty centre, dedicated to the treatment of skin conditions, dermatological research, and medical training. Situated at Mandalay Road within the Novena medical hub, NSC provides a full spectrum of skin services, from common dermatological concerns such as eczema and acne to advanced treatments for psoriasis, autoimmune diseases, and skin cancers. It plays a pivotal role in advancing dermatology in Singapore and the region.
NSC was established in 1988 to consolidate and enhance dermatological services that were previously dispersed across general hospitals. By creating a dedicated facility, Singapore was able to focus resources, expertise, and infrastructure for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin disorders. Since then, the centre has grown into a leading regional institution for dermatology1.
The National Skin Centre is located at Mandalay Road, within the Novena Planning Area, which is one of Singapore’s most prominent medical clusters.
Drivers can access the centre via the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and Central Expressway (CTE), which connect Novena to other parts of the island.
NSC provides a wide range of dermatological services, including:
NSC works closely with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and other academic institutions to train medical students, residents, and dermatology specialists. The centre also engages in clinical trials and research projects through the Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS), focusing on conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancers2.
The National Skin Centre supports national initiatives in skin health, such as public education campaigns on sun protection and early detection of skin cancers. It also provides subsidized care through its outpatient clinics to ensure affordability for Singaporeans3.
NSC is one of the busiest dermatology centres in Asia, managing more than 300,000 outpatient visits annually. It has also pioneered innovative treatments, such as targeted biologic therapies for chronic skin diseases, which have significantly improved patient outcomes4.
