Bond Street, London

Bond Street is a famous shopping street in London. It is located in Mayfair, running from Piccadilly in the south to Oxford Street in the north. It is one of the main shopping streets in the London West End area, and has one of the most upscale shops in the city.

The street called "Bond Street" in fact does not exist. It actually comprises Old Bond Street and New Bond Street. Old Bond Street, the older part, runs from Piccadilly to the junction with Burlington Gardens, and New Bond Street runs from there to Oxford Street. Present-day traffic flow is in one direction, from Oxford Street southwards to Piccadilly.

Bond Street was named after developer Sir Thomas Bond who bought a mansion called Clarendon House at Piccadilly in 1683. He demolished the house so that he could develop the land around it.

Today most of the shops along Bond Street are occupied by fashion boutiques, with most of the high-priced designer brands represented here. One of the most endearing landmarks on Bond Street is the sculpture by Lawrence Holofcener entitled "Allies." It features Winston Churchill sitting on a bench and having a conversation with Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Getting there

You can reach Bond Street by taking the Central Line or Jubilee Line to the Bond Street Tube Station, or taking the Jubilee Line, Piccadilly Line or Victoria Line to the Green Park Tube Station. In either case, you will need to walk a bit.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
