Taman Siakap is a residential road within Seberang Jaya, in Seberang Perai, Penang. It extends in a north–south direction, linking Jalan Siakap in the north to Jalan Baru in the south, making it a connector between an internal neighbourhood street and one of the major arterial routes of the mainland.1
Taman Siakap is characterised by residential housing laid out in neat rows, reflecting the systematic planning that defines Seberang Jaya. While its alignment is modest in length, its connection to Jalan Baru ensures that the road is well integrated into the broader road network of Seberang Perai, providing residents with quick access to Perai, Butterworth, and the Penang Bridge interchange.2
The neighbourhood itself is peaceful, with a mix of terrace houses, semi-detached homes, and small-scale community amenities. Streetside landscaping and shaded sidewalks add to its suburban feel.
Taman Siakap was developed as part of the planned township of Seberang Jaya in the 1970s and 1980s under the auspices of the Penang Development Corporation (PDC). The “fish-themed” naming convention extends here, with Taman Siakap reflecting continuity with adjoining Jalan Siakap and neighbouring roads such as Jalan Tenggiri and Jalan Todak.3
The road has since matured into a well-established neighbourhood, with many original homeowners still present, alongside new families attracted by its centrality and accessibility.
The northern end of Taman Siakap joins Jalan Siakap, linking it to the internal residential network of Seberang Jaya. Its southern end opens to Jalan Baru, one of the longest and busiest roads in Seberang Perai, connecting Bukit Mertajam to Butterworth and serving as a vital commuter corridor.4
While no Rapid Penang buses run directly along Taman Siakap itself, bus routes operate on Jalan Baru and Jalan Tenggiri nearby. These include Rapid Penang routes 703 and 709, both of which connect Seberang Jaya to Bukit Mertajam and Butterworth, providing residents of Taman Siakap with reliable public transport options within walking distance.5
Residents of Taman Siakap benefit from proximity to a range of facilities:
Properties in Taman Siakap reflect Seberang Jaya’s established housing market. Typical double-storey terrace houses here range from about 1,400–1,800 sq ft (130–167 sq m) built-up, with lot sizes around 1,200–1,600 sq ft (111–149 sq m). Asking prices in 2025 are generally in the RM350,000–RM450,000 range, depending on renovations and frontage.10
Rental listings for standard terrace houses are in the RM1,200–RM1,800 per month bracket, which is lower than island averages but reflective of Seberang Jaya’s good accessibility and established amenities.11
A planned neighbourhood: Like the rest of Seberang Jaya, Taman Siakap is the product of Penang Development Corporation’s master plan. The consistent road-naming theme (with “Siakap” referring to barramundi) is one of the quirks of the township that sets it apart from organically developed neighbourhoods elsewhere in Penang.3
