Raffles Landing Site, Singapore

The Raffles Landing Site is a spot by the bank of the Singapore River in front of the Empress Place Building. Considering the mouth of the Singapore River has undergone numerous land reclamation from the establishment of Singapore as a British trading post until today, I am not sure how accurate is the account that this really marks the spot where Sir Stamford Raffles first landed in Singapore - or is it just a marketing exercise courtesy of the Tourism Board.

The most prominent feature marking the spot is the polymarble statue of Raffles. This statue was unveiled in 1972, and is the second Stamford Raffles statue in Singapore - the first is standing just a short distance away, in front of the Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall.
