The name “Joo Koon” is written in Chinese as 裕群 (pinyin: Yùqún). The toponym is believed to derive from the names of early village settlements or plantations in the area before industrialisation. “Joo” may be adapted from the Hokkien or Teochew pronunciation of “裕” (prosperity), while “Koon” could be linked to “群” (group or community).
