Institution Hill, Singapore

Institution Hill, SingaporeInstitution Hill, Singapore (30 July 2017)

Institution Hill is a minor road in River Valley, Singapore. It is within Postal District 09. The road connects on one end to River Valley Road, and reaches a dead end on the other. It is a leafy neighbourhood with apartment blocks and landed houses.

According to Singapore Street Names, the road owes its name to Raffles Institution. Stamford Raffles had given 1,000 acres of land in that area to the institution. However, after Raffles retired, the government bought back the land from the school. Over the subsequent years, ownership passed from one individual to another, and by the mid-1980s, the area was re-developed with apartments that we see today.
