Caseen Street, Singapore (30 July 2017)
Caseen Street is a minor street in the
Robertson Quay subzone of the
Singapore River Planning Area, in Singapore. The road is closed to traffic. The street used to run all the way to the Singapore River, but today, a small stretch is pedestrianised.
According to
Singapore Street Names1, the street was given its name in 1898, though originally the spelling was Kasseen. There is no explanation as to the etymology of this name.
What;s in the Name?2 likewise mentions that the street was named in 1898, and goes on to mention two other variants to the name, Casseen and Kasseen, but likewise could not offer an explanation whom it was named after.
