Seck Chuan Lane was named after Khoo Seck Chuan, one of the big landowners in 19th century George Town and a member of the board of directors of Khoo Kongsi and Kong Hock Keong (the Goddess of Mercy Temple). His mansion is believed to be located in the vicinity of Seck Chuan Lane. The Hokkiens called it Tua33 Mui3 Lau3 Au33, meaning "(lane) on the hindside of the big entrance arch". It refers to two entrance arches facing Chulia Street going into Sek Chuan Lane, and ending at the compound of a big house, probably that of Khoo Seck Chuan.

Street Art
Seck Chuan Lane has a steel-rod sculpture which I call the "Rock Candyman" Sculpture. It is based on a caricature by local cartoonist Baba Chuah.
