For much of the 20th century, served as the exit road from Weld Quay to Bridge Street. This all changed when the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway was built. Originally called the Jelutong Expressway, it connects with Weld Quay to allow continuous drive heading south, eventually all the way to Batu Maung. The change turned Noordin Street Ghaut from a former one-way street to the present two-way street.
There are no buses passing through Noordin Street Ghaut. The nearest bus stop is on the next road, Magazine Road Ghaut. Buses serving that stop include Rapid Penang303, 307 and 401E.
