Most of the shops selling handicrafts, novelties and curios in Penang are found in George Town, with a few in the Batu Ferringhi tourist belt. Look also at the list of Antique Shops in Penang.
If you are looking for handicrafts, Penang Road has the most shops followed by Chulia Street. You can also find a couple of handicraft outlets at Gurney Plaza.
Admittedly the bulk of handicrafts and novelties you will find in the shops in Penang are not made locally, but come from Thailand or Myanmar. Locally produced items are often rather basic in design, and is often limited to trinkets and batik items.
