Although the railway line has existed since it opened for the Metropolitan Railway on 13 June 1864, the present Wood Lane Tube Station is brand new, having opened on 12 October 2008. The Wood Lane name was however used previously for a station in the area, once during the Franco-British Exhibition and Summer Olympics in 1908, again in 1920, and again between 1947 and 1959. For almost half a decade the trains pass through the station without stopping, as commuters would be using the White City Tube Station nearby. The opening of the new Wood Lane Tube Station made it now a permanet fixture.
