The railway line of Uxbridge dates back to 1904. The original station, no longer in use, was some distance to the north of the present station. It was built by the Metropolitan Railway, the precursor of today's Metropolitan Line. In 1910, the District Line also be3gan serving Uxbridge until 1933, when its services were taken over by the Piccadilly Line.
Future plans, if approved by Transport for London, would see the Central Line extended to Uxbridge Tube Station as well. The London Borough of Hillingdon has been lobbying for the extension.
