Royal Academy of Art is an art institution in London. It is located at Burlington House, an early 18th century mansion on Piccadilly. The academy is a privately funded institution led by eminent artists. Its mission is to promote the creation and appreciation of visual arts.
The Royal Academy of Art was founded by King George III on 10 December, 1768. It holds an annual summer exhibition of works by new and established artists. Among the noted permanent items in the collection of the Royal Academy includes a relief of the Madonna and Child by Michelangelo.
