Jalan Dinding, formerly called Dindings Lane, is a short street off Transfer Road in George Town. As with nearby Hutton Lane, Dindings Lane is translated as a "jalan" rather than a "lorong" in Malay, hence Jalan Dinding. Dindings Lane leads into the Indian Muslim and Malay settlements off Transfer Road.
Dindings Lane was named after the islands and territory of Dinding, collectively called the Dindings, which formed part of the Straits Settlements. They were ceded to the British in 1826 and reiterated in 1874.
