There was a sizeable Malay community living in that area, especially from the third quarter of the 19th century. Though the number has declined, they still worship at the nearby Masjid Jamek Jalan Hatin along Hutton Lane.
Ariffin Road is one of two roads in Penang named after Wan Chik Ariffin, the other being Ariffin Court a short distance away. Masjid Wan Chik Ariffin along Perak Road was also built by him.
You should board the bus to Transfer Road and then walk from there. Rapid Penang Bus 10, 11, 101, 103, 104, 201, 202, 203, 204 and 206 pass along Transfer Road.
