Songkhla Province จังหวัดสงขลา is one of the southern provinces of Thailand. It covers 7,393.9 sq km (2,854.8 sq mi) and has a population of 1.4 million people (2011 estimate), makin g it the 11th most populous province of Thailand. As with all the provinces of the kingdom, its provincial capital is also called Songkhla. However, unlike most of the other provincial capitals, Songkhla is not the largest city in Songkhla Province, as it is surpassed in size by the city of Hatyai, which is over twice the size of Songkhla town.
Songkhla Province is bordered by Pattani Province and Yala Province to the southeast, Satun Province to the west, Phatthalung Province to the northwest and Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to the north. It also shares an international border with the states of Kedah and Perlis in Malaysia. The border towns of Dannok and Padang Besar are also in Songkhla Province.
Songkhla Province includes a narrow tongue of land between the Gulf of Thailand and the Great Songkhla Lake. This area has a number of fine beaches, among them Maharat Beach.
