Yala Province จังหวัดยะลา is one of the provinces in southern Thailand. It covers an area of 4,521 sq km (1,745 sq mi). The province is bordered by Songkhla Province to the west, Pattani Province to the north, and Narathiwat Province to the east. It is also bordered by the Malaysian states of Kedah to the southwest and Perak to the south. The provincial capital is the town of Yala.
Yala was historically part of Pattani Province until the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909, during which it was separated out of Pattani. The name Yala is said to be a Thai transliteration of Jala, the local Malay word for net. The people of Yala Province is predominantly Muslim, making up 72% of the population.
