Sungai Pinang in Balik Pulau is one of the two rivers in Penang by that name. The Sungai Pinang of Balik Pulau flows towards the west coast. It has its estuary, Kuala Sungai Pinang, among the mangrove swamp of the west coast. This is a fishing village where most of the villagers are fishermen. Further upriver is the village of Kampung Sungai Pinang.
Unlike the other Sungai Pinang, the Sungai Pinang of the west coast is relatively unpolluted by inorganic waste. The river cascades down the steep slope of the central hills to reach the western plain, where it then meanders into the wetlands.
