Jalan Aston is also known as Jalan Che Bee Noor. The name change took effect in 1991, though most of the locals still call it Jalan Aston. The new namesake is a woman politician from Wanita UMNO. One of her children was the Federal Court judge Datuk Haidar. Che Bee Noor passed away in 1971 when she was performing the Haj in Mecca.
According to Dr Mohammad Najiran2, who is researching the history of Penang road names for his graduate degree, Che Bee Noor was a candidate for the Malayan General Elections of 1959. She was the leader of Pergerakan Kaum Ibu.
Jalan Aston is believed to have been named after Arthur Vincent Aston, who served British Adviser of Perak from 1946 to 1948 and as Resident Commissioner of Penang from 1948 to 1951. During the Japanese Occupation, Aston was interned at Changi Prison in Singapore. He died in 1981.
