Orange Grove Subzone (桔柑园, Júgān Yuán) is one of the most exclusive localities within the Newton Planning Area of Singapore. Its name is derived from the early orchards of orange trees that once grew in this area during the colonial period. Over the years, the subzone has transformed into a prestigious residential district, home to luxury condominiums, embassies, and some of Singapore’s most iconic hotels.
The origins of Orange Grove trace back to the 19th century, when the area was cultivated with fruit orchards, particularly orange trees, which gave the subzone its name. With urban expansion during the British colonial era, the orchards gave way to villas and mansions for wealthy European and local families. By the mid-20th century, the district became known for its luxury hotels and residences, further cementing its reputation as an upscale neighbourhood.
