Cantonment MRT Station (CC31) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on Singapore's Circle Line (CCL). Located in the Bukit Merah Planning Area, the station sits adjacent to the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and beneath its grounds, providing convenient rail access to the southern fringe of the city centre. Opened in July 2026 as part of the Circle Line Stage 6 extension, the station improves connectivity between the HarbourFront area and Marina Bay. It is one of the deepest stations on the Circle Line, constructed 28 metres below ground.
Cantonment MRT Station is located beneath the grounds adjoining the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, within Singapore's Bukit Merah Planning Area. 1 Despite its name, the station is actually situated about 400 metres west of Cantonment Road, from which it derives its name.
The station falls within Postal District 2, which covers parts of Tanjong Pagar, Bukit Merah and the southern Central Business District. Its strategic location places it close to the Rail Corridor, the Greater Southern Waterfront redevelopment area and several commercial developments along Keppel Road and Anson Road. 1
Cantonment MRT Station was constructed as part of Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6), the final phase of the Circle Line that completed the orbital railway around Singapore. 2
Before opening to the public, the station hosted the LASALLE College of the Arts 2026 Graduation Fashion Show on 14 May 2026. During the event, the Guest of Honour, Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow, announced that the station would open for passenger service on 12 July 2026. 2
A public preview of the station was subsequently held on 4 July 2026, allowing visitors to tour the new facilities before the station officially commenced operations on 12 July 2026. 2
Cantonment MRT Station is served by the Circle Line (CCL) and carries the station code CC31. 3
The adjacent stations are:
With the completion of Circle Line Stage 6, passengers can now travel around the entire Circle Line loop without transferring to another line, improving travel efficiency and network resilience. 2
Although Cantonment MRT Station does not have its own integrated bus interchange, several public bus services operate along Keppel Road, Kampong Bahru Road and Neil Road, providing convenient onward connections to HarbourFront, Tanjong Pagar and the city centre. The nearby HarbourFront Bus Interchange is approximately one kilometre away. 1
The station's most prominent landmark is the beautifully restored Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, a National Monument and an important gateway to the Rail Corridor. The station also provides convenient access to the nearby Tanjong Pagar business district, the Greater Southern Waterfront, and commercial developments including Guoco Tower, International Plaza and 100 AM, all within walking distance or a short bus ride. 1
At 28 metres below ground, Cantonment MRT Station is one of the deepest stations on the Circle Line. The considerable depth was necessary because the tunnels pass beneath the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station while preserving the integrity of the National Monument above. 2
Another interesting fact is that before carrying its first passengers, the station was transformed into an unconventional fashion runway when LASALLE College of the Arts staged its 2026 Graduation Fashion Show within the station. The unique event showcased the station's spacious architecture while marking an unusual milestone in Singapore's MRT history. 2
Cantonment MRT Station is an important addition to Singapore's rail network, linking the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station precinct with the completed Circle Line. Combining modern transport infrastructure with heritage conservation, the station serves commuters, visitors and the growing Greater Southern Waterfront, while standing as one of the most architecturally and historically significant stations on the Circle Line.
