As with Irrawaddy Road, Salween Road was named after a geographical locality in Myanmar, in this case the Salween River, which originates in Tibet, and flows through Thailand and the Shan and Kayah states of Myanmar to enter the Andaman Sea.
Salween Road is lined with residential properties in the form of double-storey terrace houses built in the mid 20th century. They exhibit an early modern architecture style. The only high-rise building along the road is the 30-storey Sri Perdana Condominium built in 1996.
