Pepper Estate Road, Penang (9 June 2012)
Pepper Estate Road, nowadays called Jalan Ladang Lada, is the main road into the settlement of Pepper Estate in George Town, Penang. The road forms the main backbone over which the smaller roads of the neighbourhood branch out.
As its name suggests the area was once Eow Thoon Estate, a pepper plantation that was redeveloped into low-cost housing in the late 1960s. At time of writing (December 2013), it appears that the land on which Pepper Estate is standing has been sold off for redevelopment, and that the residents may be forced to vacate. The residents, mostly of the low-income group, have voiced their grievance over this issue, particularly over the quantum of compensation, which is deemed to low.
Getting there
Pepper Estate Road is not served by bus. The only practical way to reach it is by private transport.View Pepper Estate Road in a larger map
