History & Development
The Kajang Line was conceptualised as the first of the Klang Valley MRT network lines, designed to improve public transit capacity, reduce traffic congestion, and connect growing suburban areas with the city. Construction began in the early 2010s, and the line was delivered in two phases: first the elevated northern section, then the full alignment including underground tunnelled sections through central Kuala Lumpur. 2
Neighbourhoods & Route Character
The line begins in the northwest at Kwasa Damansara, enters suburban areas such as Kota Damansara, Bandar Utama, and TTDI; then passes through elevated and underground sections through the city centre (Golden Triangle, Bukit Bintang, Muzium Negara, etc.), before making its way to residential and commercial-mixed suburbs in Cheras and ending in Kajang. Along the way it serves many dense housing areas, shopping centres, business districts, and mixed-use developments. 2
When the MRT Kajang Line Phase One began operations on 16 December 2026, the first station was the Sungai Buloh MRT Station. However, when the MRT Putrajaya Line commenced on 16 June 2022, the Kwasa Damansara MRT Station was made the first station, at least two stations: Kampung Selamat and Sungai Buloh, were transferred to the Putrajaya Line.

Rolling Stock, Capacity & Features
The trains on the Kajang Line are 4-car train sets, designed for high passenger throughput. Each train can accommodate about 1,200 passengers. The line has accessibility features such as lifts, platform screen doors in underground stations, and is built to universal-access standards. 2
Performance and Ridership
Journey time from one end (Kwasa Damansara) to the other (Kajang) is approximately 88 minutes in full service. During peak hours, train frequency is higher (shorter headways), improving commuter experience. 2
Notable Stations
Future / Planned Enhancements
Since its completion, the line has been adjusted slightly due to the commissioning of the Putrajaya Line, which required migration of some stations (e.g. Sungai Buloh, Kampung Selamat) from the original Kajang Line designation. 4 Other enhancements include improved feeder-bus integration, park-and-ride facilities at many stations, and upgrades to signalling and capacity management. 2
